15th-Oct-2009 11:57 am - It's My Life
tower
I haven't updated this thing in ages, so I think I'll give a quick recap of what's been going on lately.
  • My mom's dachsund had to be hospitalized for three days and is now on a ton of pills. It cost an awful lot of money.
  • I got a job. Today is my first payday.
  • I got a bunny. He's a 6 week-old Lionshead Rabbit named Tribble.
  • I caught whatever the most recent plague is that has been going around and cannot stop coughing.
I think that's about it. Today is cleaning day for me. I'm ripping my bedroom apart and putting it back together and am also attempting to conquer the back room. Most of it is full of toys and books. The stuffed animals that I can bear to part with are going to charity and I'm going to Half-Price Books later to attempt to sell any and all books that I don't read any more. I think the first run L.J. Smith books and the old Anne Rice novels get to stay. I'm too sentimental to get rid of them.

I cannot believe that I spent ages being told that I was "unhireable" because I'm 22 and have never worked. I filled out at least fifteen applications over the last month and heard nothing back at all and now freaking three different companies have offered me a job in less than a week. I go to orientation tomorrow at 1:00 for my new slightly higher than minimum wage paying job. I should (hopefully) now be able to make up for the fact that my school still hasn't even given me the paperwork to get my grant money to pay for my classes. Bothering the financial aid workers is getting me nowhere- they keep telling me that my acceptance letter will either be mailed sometime this week or sometime within the next month. I'm getting ready to have to cut someone, and no one wants that.

I am also having trouble dealing with Criminal Minds giving me an episode where Connor freaking McManus is a serial killer on the one night where I decide I need to watch Glee live. Damn you for being so adorable, Kristin Chenowith!

Post a Supernatural quote to your journal. I can't believe school is going to make me miss the premiere.

"Obviously I'm a god. A cruel, cruel capricious god."

The college just called me to tell me that they've canceled my crime scene reconstruction course for the semester. This led to a great deal of panic as I needed that class to graduate next semester. It also means that I need another class to be able to qualify for my financial aid.

I ended up enrolling in Oklahoma History of all things since I have nearly exhausted any classes that sound even remotely interesting and I will apparently be paying for my own books, at least until the school gets their shit together and sorts out my money. I have no idea what's going on right now and I don't like it.

Yesterday was pretty awesome. [info]xcrimsonxravenx  and I drove out to Quail Springs Mall to meet up with [info]elfwarrior87  and [info]serenityalways . Christina and I ran up to the Disney store to squee at the tiny Halloween costumes for a bit and after that we all went to see Ponyo. Hayao Miyazaki is still a genius. Ponyo was every bit as lovely as I always expect Studio Ghibli works to be and anyone who hates that film has no soul.

Afterward we went running around and listened to the entirety of A Very Potter Musical while sitting in my car in a Wal-Mart parking lot and eating Ben & Jerry's. Fun times were had by all. I can't wait to do it all again for Where The Wild Things Are.

If it isn't one thing in this house, it's another. The kitchen is now something approaching acceptable (I still haven't painted or replaced the plastic kitchen sink and those awful green counter tops), but the lawn mower has now decided to break, the bathroom faucet is leaking from the knobs of all places, and the plumbing leading to the toilet and bathroom sink needs to be re-done. Also, I'm fairly certain that parts of this house have neither insulation nor sheet rock behind their fake wooden panels. There is also a hole between my closet wall and the floor that seems to lead outside.

Whoever built/remodeled this house needs to be found and punished for what they have done. The drain pipe leading from my sink appears to be in some strange configuration that only the original plumber knew the reason for. Was Dr. Seuss involved in building my tiny bathroom? This means I am unable to hook up the new sink until I can wrangle Jenny into helping me on one of her days off, as all of the men in my life seem to be worthless at the moment. Let's hope I'm a quick study for when I need to learn to hang my own sheet rock.

I went and did the midnight Harry Potter thing last night. It was crazy. There was nowhere to park anywhere remotely close to the theater when I got there at 10:40. AMC had at least 7 showings going on at the same time and every one was packed. At some point before the show a boy dressed as a Snitch ran through the theater with Harry Potter on a broom chasing after him. I saw Mad Eye and Hagrid and Tonks and Dumbledore and geeked out all over the place.

The film itself was amazing and I need to see it again. It has both hilarious and poignant. And on a shallow note, Draco Malfoy should run around in shirtsleeves all the time. UNF.

Sidenote: I have just realized that I really need to lay off the cookies and Code Red Mountain Dew. I'm running out of jeans that fit.

There hasn't actually been time for anything this week. I've been nearly too busy to sleep, let alone deal with Ryan Ross's drama. Why does the internet always explode when I cannot properly deal with it?

I went to the zoo again on Wednesday for Meghan's birthday with some of the SNU girls and I got to play tour guide, as most of them are from out of town. Joy is from Tulsa and was able to give me a report on our elephants, which I have missed terribly since they were sent away to make baby elephants.

Today I need to go to Renovation Station to get the rest of the tile to finish my checkerboard floor in the kitchen and then grocery shopping before I can properly clean the house. The living room is a nightmare, the laundry in the laundry room floor is up to my knees, and my cleaning supplies have all vanished off of the face of the planet. I have no idea where they could possibly be, it's not like anyone else here uses them!

Tomorrow morning we leave for Memphis (7 hours in the car with my family! Please send help!) to pick up our unwanted and Brother-imposed guest. I'm just hoping that she isn't a complete nut-job. I may take to sleeping with my sword so that she can't kill me in my sleep before I get to see the new Harry Potter. My life is hard, you guys.

mighty fine print
I have come to the sad realization that I am actually a grown-up. I own an oven! We are leasing to own a house that my mother does not actually live in! I keep buying things like hand mixers and pizza pans and actually getting excited about it. (The hand mixer means I can try that cupcake recipe again!)

Today I signed a contract with a fencing company to spend $1750 of my inheritance from Grandpa to fence in my yard. It'll get those bloody kids from down the street out of my yard. Last night I turned on the sprinklers on them. I have honestly considered chasing them off with a stick. I am that mean old woman down the street.

I feel old. I've decided to treat myself to a few thing from my Amazon wish list and to buy that bottle of BPAL I've been wanting to make me feel better about it all.

About the Disco:
The band that I've loved for 4 years of my life is no longer the same. Half have moved on to new things, hopefully with some old friends. The other two are salvaging what they have and I wish them nothing but the very best. I'll continue to follow both endeavors but for now I can't quite bring myself to put any of their music on. I'm glad that I had already taken a step back from Bandom during the BBB drama. It'll make it easier to make a clean break.
